Hello Friends and Supporters of WIN House,

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of WIN House. Since our beginning in 1968, our vision and mission have remained the same: to further non-violent relationships and environments for women with or without children. This milestone year provides an opportunity to honour and pay tribute to the past while paving the way for the future.

Dr. Pat Eglinski, past president of the EWS Board of Directors (1979-1981), in her final address as president, quoted American writer, activist, and feminist Betty Friedan to sum up her experience in that role: “It changed my life”. It is with respect and admiration for those founding members that we acknowledge their vision, hope and commitment. Their work changed the lives of so many women. These first women and men also gave WIN House a legacy of belief in the equality and strength for women. It is in this we too believe, and this belief will move us forward.

The true mark of an organization like WIN House is its ability to consistently grow; establishing necessary programs and services to the ever-changing needs of our clients. Since 1978 when we opened our first house, WIN I, we started with a House Director, two paid staff and 26 trained volunteers. Today, we have over 65 staff members and 92 volunteers assisting at our fundraising events and at the Business Office.

The development over the last five decades must be attributed in part to those who have served WIN House in one role or another. I would like to take this opportunity to thank both past and present Boards of Directors, as well as donors, stakeholders, staff, and volunteers for their contributions to WIN House’s success.

WIN House values its mission to promote the well-being, health, development, and welfare of women regardless of circumstance. With your assistance we can work together to provide shelter for women and children in our community with continued consistency. Hopefully, through awareness and providing opportunities to women, we can change the future.

Thank you for your support in our effort to increase awareness and foster change in our community.

Tess Gordey, MSW
