On Saturday, November 3rd, the 3rd Annual Under the Umbrella Gala, presented by our friends at Brookfield Residential, was held at the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel. Nearly 300 people attended the event and without a doubt, it was our best ever. This year was a year for celebrating milestones, embracing the present and preparing for the future. We are truly blessed to be so greatly supported every single year. We simply can’t describe how amazing it is to see so many people come together and to be surrounded by people who are touched by our mission and our goals. To know that all of our hard work is truly having an impact on so many women, children and families fighting some unimaginable obstacles is what continues to motivate us. A special thanks to all our incredible sponsors and donors who “stand under our umbrella” every day through their support and generous donations.

It was great seeing so many familiar faces who have chosen to attend our gala every year, and it was equally special to speak to so many new faces who are just learning about our organization and starting the conversation to help end domestic violence. The event was a huge success that raised $106,330 to help further our mission of furthering non-violent relationships and environments for women with or without children. This fantastic outcome was made possible through the dedication and hard work of people like our gala committee Terry McRobb, Marg Sebzda, Ilene Janis, Michelle Kohl, Renee Giroux; WIN House’s Board of Directors; all WIN House staff; our event experts KMG Events, Kate Gallagher, Emily Vaughan, Kristine Villanueva and Bobbi Wolbeck; and so many other kind and caring volunteers.

We were truly honored to have our founding members Rose-Marie McCarthy, Ardis Beaudry and Phyllis Ellis join us that evening. Without the dedication and will of these wonderful women, WIN House wouldn’t be where it is today. A big thank you to our guest speaker Aurora, for sharing her story of strength and courage that reminded us why we need to speak up and take a stand against domestic violence. Together we can ensure that WIN House will continue to be a safe place for families living in fear—families that have nowhere else to go. WIN House exists so that women and children like Aurora and her son always have a safe place to go, no matter how helpless they may feel.

A message from Aurora:

“I will continue to fight for me and my son to live an abuse-free happy life, no matter where we live. So, thank you for your support of WIN House and thank you for continuing to help women and their children living with domestic violence to not only survive, but to thrive while we rebuild our lives.”

If you couldn’t attend, there is still an opportunity to contribute to the event. During the night, we did a special “Call to Action” at the event that raised money to support our Child Trauma Program Sensory Room, Healthy Meals Program, Harm Reduction Assessment Room and the Fresh Start Program. Visit our Call to Action webpage to make your contribution to this special cause.
